Birthdays are the best time for self-introspection.
Yesterday (January 22) was my 32nd birthday.
While I can’t say that I have lived a completely guilt-free life but I’ve certainly learned a great deal during the journey.
Nothing much has changed in a year. I am still happily married, I am working for myself, I am traveling with no plans, I am losing my hair 2x more (Ouch!) and I am getting asked when will I have my first kid.
But the truth is I have changed. I am not the same person I was a year ago.
I am certainly wiser, more grateful and sensible than ever before. For true change always come from within.
I have stopped chasing and started embracing little moments which lead to a simple and more fulfilling life.
Once I’ve peeled away the layers- the needs to be successful, to have kids, to own a house, to become part of the top 1%… seem to just fade away.
And embrace the person I was becoming.
1. I set my own life goals. I’ve reached a point in life where it’s no longer necessary to try to live my life the way others wanted me to, to play a role and to fit into the society. I decided to live life on my own terms and set my own goals for life.
If you don’t design your own life plan, chances are you’ll fall into someone else’s plan. And guess what they have planned for you? Not much. ~Jim Rohn.
2. I enjoy my alone time, my own space and most of all, able to retreat into my inner world anytime anywhere I want, where I just observe, dream and come up with ideas.
3. I want to build my own family but I’m little selfish – I want to spend more quality time with my partner.
4. I am a creator, want to spend all of my time creating, writing and giving.
5. What matters most to me is to continue to grow as an individual and make a meaningful contribution to others. Growing and giving, that’s the meaning of life.
6. I have a dream that one day on the greenery hills of Swiss, I have a small little wooden hut overlooking the Alps, living close to nature, and spend a lot of time to reflect, improve myself and still contribute to the world.
7. Less is more. I no longer indulge in buying things just to feel good, to impress others and to keep up the Joneses.
Less is better. I’m surrounded by great friends and family that I’m grateful for. Keep it small, close and nurture it.
8. Slow down. I’m getting better at this but I’m still improving. To remind myself to slow down, enjoy the process and pace myself. Sometimes, it’s okay to wait a little longer for something.
9. Growing old has been a humbling process. First, I need humility the ask for help. Then, I need humility to know that there’s so much more to learn.
And I need humility to share how I got here and to appreciate those who have helped me along the way.
10. I want to look young, stay healthy and live as long as possible. But then I realized that our bodies and hairs are extremely transitory. With each passing second, our bodies are decaying without us even noticing it.
Once I shift my focus on growing within and embrace change, I start to see the beauty of growing older like never before.
Embracing these things help me to live a better life. Above all, growing older is the process of maturing, flow in the process, discover what lies in our innermost selves and know how to fully express and expand ourselves…
