The 1% Rule: The No-Brainer Secret to Making 4-figures a month in Self-Publishing

The 1% Rule: The No-Brainer Secret to Making Four Figure a month in Kindle Publishin

“Look, I still get a hundred dollar check from Amazon after so many years!”

My dad-in-law shouted in excitement.

It’s not a BIG check.

But wait… he has done nothing over the past four years except putting up a book on Amazon. No promotion. No paid advertisement. No writing. Nothing.

And this came through the mail…

4 years later, this ONE eBook is still selling and making him money.

What if he continues to write and publish more books on Amazon?

What if he consistently publishes a book every month?

There would be 12 books a year. 48 books in 4 years. Does it mean that you’ll get 48 times of your efforts? No, it doesn’t add up. It multiplies. It compounds.

When you spend more time practicing the craft, the better you become. You write better, you make better book covers, you know what niches are profitable. And your books will help promoting each other!

If you understood the power of compound interest or essentially the snowball effect. You can compound your wealth like Warren Buffet.

“The Most Powerful force in the world is compound interest.” ~Albert Einstein

There’s no overnight success.

Success is the sum of tiny efforts, repeated day in and day out.

You have to start from somewhere and keep improving 1% every day.

How about start writing 500words a day?

In one day, this 500words is nothing. But in one year, that’s equivalent of 10-15 short stories or nonfiction books.

Pablo Picasso never stopped working and improving. He created 2 artworks every day. Altogether he produced 50,000 pieces, from drawings and painting to tapestries and ceramics.

But it’s too late for me… Think again!

Barbara Cortland, one of the most commercially successful authors in the world, broke the world record.

In 1976 (some say 1983), at the age of 75, she published 23 novels. She wrote 2 novels a month that year.

In a lifetime, she has published 723 novels. Died at the age of 98, she also left behind 160 unpublished manuscripts.

“Action is the foundational key to all success.” ~Pablo Picasso

Many people have a great idea for a business or a book. But they mean nothing until you start to take action and work on it.

Ernest Hemingway wrote 500words a day.

Mark Twain wrote 1,400-1,800 words a day.

Stephen King has a daily goal of writing 2,000 words. In 3 months, he can produce a novel of 180,000words.

Lee Child spends his afternoons writing 1,800 words each day.

99% of the successful people are practicing this 1%rule.

Becoming 1% better every day is a very simple yet practical step to achieve big goals. For many people, 1% seems like insignificant (that’s the reason they won’t stick to). It’s minute. It’s easy. It’s achievable.

You can simply apply this 1% rule in most of the things that you want to accomplish.

The Imperfect Art of Book Publishing

Here’s the book published in Feb 2014 and still generates royalties for my dad-in-law.

He shares his personal experience and his little secret to cure heart palpitation and irregular missed beats. It really works for him.

If you or you come to know anyone who has this heart-related problem, please share this book with them. Who knows you might help save someone’s life. You can get it here.

As a self-publisher, we should strive for progress rather than perfection.

Give yourself the permission to fail. It’s also a great opportunity to improve.

As you can see from his book salepage, there’re lots of improvements which can be done to increase the book ranking, sales and profits.

It’s definitely not a professional-looking book. But it’s a great start considered this is his first self-published book.

How to improve this book and make more money?

  1. Book cover

People do judge a book by its cover. The cover doesn’t actually sell the book, it’s just the skin to a fruit to communicate its huge juicy benefits that it has to offer.

Action: Create a professional-looking cover. Make sure that the cover design fits into the genre. Here are the cover examples of top 3 books in the Heart Health category.

  1. Book title

Book title should be large and use a font that’s easy to read.

Action: Improve on the choices of font and text color.

  1. Book reviews

Book reviews play an important role in getting your book known.

Relying solely on the sales page isn’t enough. You need to have some social proof to convince them to buy your book.

  1. Publish in paperback format

There’s still a huge demand for paperback books. You can charge higher prices selling physical books, and earn more royalties than an eBook.

Action: Use a print-on-demand service provided by Createspace or Amazon itself to publish paperback format

  1. Publish more books

The key to sustainable sales in Kindle publishing is to publish books regularly

Action: Create a book series and publish on a regular basis.
