What is a Signature Form?

A signature form is basically a document with an electronic signature field. Adding signature field to your forms is an efficient, hassle-free and easy way to get documents signed.

You can use it for various types of forms such as order forms, contracts, application forms, online petitions, human resources forms, terms of service agreements, non-disclosure agreements and much more.

In some cases, electronic signature or online signature is as legally binding as using pen and paper.

Benefits of using a signature form

But why would you bother using a signature form instead of a regular document?

There are several reasons why bloggers, entrepreneurs and small businesses might consider going paperless:

  • Quick and easy

No more printing, signing, scanning, faxing and shipping documents. Simply by creating signature forms with WPForms, customers and clients can sign any document, anytime, anywhere in the world.

  • You save time and effort

No time waste in sending and getting a document signed.

  • Convenient and secure

Your users can draw a signature using a touchpad, mouse or finger.

How To Create A Signature Form Using WPForms

The process of creating signature forms with WPForms is pretty simple and straightforward.

But it’s worth mentioning that if you’re going to make an online contract, you might want to consult a lawyer or legal professional regarding the details of your agreement. This may seem redundant but will save you from legal issues or dealing with ambiguity down the line.

Now, I’ll walk you through the whole process. You’ll have your first signature form ready in a couple of minutes.

So let’s begin.

Step 1: Create a Signature Form

First, you’ll need to install and active WPForms plugin on your WordPress site.

If you need help, check out this article on how to install a WordPress plugin.

Once WPForms is installed, you’ll need to install and activate the Signature addon. With the help of this addon, your users or customers can submit their digital signatures to your WordPress site right away.

Here’s what we’re going to do: (1) create a service agreement form and then (2) add the Signature field option to it.

As an example of this tutorial, we’ll create a form from scratch using the Blank Form template.

  • In your WordPress admin, go to WPForm plugin and select “Blank Form” template.
  • Then, you’ll be taken to the Form Editor page.
  • Simply drag and drop the “Signature” field option to your form.
  • Click on the Signature field to edit it.
  • Note: Remember to set the Signature as Required to make sure that users must digitally sign in order to submit your WordPress form.

Step 2: Configure Your Form’s Settings

Form’s settings allow you to edit and add more functions to your forms. There are 3 main things that you can set up on your form.

  • General Settings: Give a name to your WordPress form, add a short description, submit button and include extra features such as spam prevention and more.
  • Form Confirmations: WPForms will automatically show a message to visitors after they submit a form on your site.
  • Form Notifications: Send automatic email to those who have submitted a form on your site.

Also, you can add a Subscribe checkbox to your agreement form. I’d recommend enabling this feature as it is a great way to collect email subscribers. Plus, it’ll be linked directly to any email marketing provider you’re currently using.

Here’re the email service provider integrations:

  • AWeber
  • Drip
  • Constant Contact
  • MailChimp
  • Campaign Monitor
  • GetResponse

Step 3: Create and Publish Your Service Agreement

Now your service agreement form is ready, let’s add it to your WordPress.

  • To publish a form on your site, go to “Page”> “Add New”.
  • Next, edit your WordPress page like page’s title and add content for the agreement.
  • Click Add Block (+) icon to add the service agreement form. Type in WPForms in the search box and select it.
  • Look for your service agreement form from the dropdown box and add it to your page.
  • Lastly, click “Publish” to have your form live on your WordPress.

That’s it. You’ve successfully created a WordPress form with digital signatures.
