CoinMarketCap Alternatives: 8 Best Alternatives to Check Cryptocurrency Prices

CoinMarketCap Alternatives: 8 Best Alternatives to Check Cryptocurrency Prices. ThinkmaverickIf you have been following the cryptocurrency market, you definitely would have heard of CoinMarketCap before.

It is perhaps the most popular market analysis tool for cryptocurrencies.

Founded in 2013, CoinMarketCap has gained a reputation in the crypto sphere as the key reference point for price tracking. It’s widely used by crypto enthusiasts, traders, speculators, and even major news media like Bloomberg.

So there comes the question, “Why would you need to use other alternative sites if you can get all the prices and information all in one platform?

But the overdependence on a centralized system for checking cryptocurrency price isn’t without its flaws.

Just occurred in early 2018 when CoinMarketCap decided to change its price calculation model and removed South Korean exchanges from its listings, causing the overall market plummeted.

But the truth is almost all coins were traded on South Korean exchanges at a premium. CoinMarketCap’s decision to exclude Korean exchanges, giving a false impression that coins were crashing and causing panic selling in the crypto market.

This incidence affected altcoin Ripple (XRP) the most, lost over $20 billion in market capitalization overnight.

What we can learn from here is that overdependence on a centralized system for price tracking will cause widespread chaos and unnecessary confusion across the market. It’s never a good idea to have a centralized platform dominating in a robust decentralized ecosystem.

Having said that, I’ve compiled a list of best 8 CoinMarketCap alternatives to track the cryptocurrency prices.

My favorite 8 CoinMarketCap Alternatives

1. CoinGecko

I’m surprised to find out that CoinGecko was founded by TM Lee who’s from my home country Malaysia!

Launched in April 2014, CoinGecko is a one of the world’s largest analytics site for tracking cryptocurrencies, ICOs and blockchain assets.

At first glance, CoinGecko looked quite similar to CoinMarketCap. Both have a clean and simple user interface, providing live cryptocurrency price, market capitalization, graph and ranking.

What makes CoinGecko different from CoinMarketCap is that it takes other important factors into consideration for the coins rankings such as liquidity, developer activity, community and public interest.

As a general rule of thumb, a healthy altcoin should have a good community support, exhibit high liquidity, and have an active input from developers.

If you’re looking to invest or trade altcoins, you should at least check out CoinGecko.

Besides that, you can also use the many widgets provided and APIs on the platform for free.

For those who’re into the space of crypto mining, you might want to look into the mining calculator section. With the help of this calculator, you’ll learn whether it’s profitable for you to mine the particular coin and how long it’ll take to make any profit or get even.

CoinGecko not only provides a live ranking of all the active cryptocurrencies but also gives you lists of forthcoming ICOs and relevant data.

Whether you’re a crypto miner, a trader, an investor or simply want to track the price movement, CoinGecko has something to offer for everyone.

2. CrytoCompare

As its name suggests, CryptoCompare provides a great platform for viewing, comparing and analyzing over 1600 cryptocurrencies in the world.

Today, CryptoCompare is a one-stop site for checking the latest streaming prices of different cryptocurrencies. It also provides recent market variables such as market cap, volume, supply, last trade, latest news and more.

Furthermore, you can view prices in BTC, ETH and 18 more fiat currencies. It also lets users to browse CoinCap UI in 20 different languages apart from English which is a huge advantage for any site in this particular niche.

And I find the available apps for iOS and an Android device particularly handy. It allows you to watch the crypto markets whenever and wherever is convenient for you.

6. LiveCoinWatch

LiveCoinWatch is one of the major leading online sites that show real-time crypto coin prices, cryptocurrency market cap rankings, graphs and analysis for more than 2360 cryptocurrencies.

With LiveCoinWatch, you can see and track price movements in more than 30 fiat currencies, set your own portfolio and watchlist.

And since cryptocurrencies are being traded at a far higher rate in South Korea than the rest of the world, there’s an option to turn off the inclusion Korean markets in the price calculation.

The only downside is that LiveCoinWatch is pretty a new platform, created in October 2017. But it’s not a huge problem because you’ll get another transparent source of cryptocurrency news and market prices.

7. Coin Ranking

If you’re looking for a crypto ranking website that offers a simple and clean user interface, showing only important cryptocurrency metrics, then you might want to check out Coin Ranking.

What makes CoinRanking stand out from the crowd is its design- you can easily find the information needed at a glance.

It has only 4 main columns, namely the coin name, price (USD), market cap, and 24-hour change in percentage. All the data are presented in a straightforward and logical manner.

If you want to know more about any specific crypto coin, just click on the coin. Next, you will be taken to a page where you’ll learn a brief introduction of the selected cryptocurrency including, its market cap, total supply, circulating supply, ranking, all-time high and more.

Sometimes less is more! This is the website for those who want to get the essential data quickly and avoid distractions.

8. CoinCodex

CoinCodex provides an easy way to monitor real-time coin prices, charts, and rankings. Here you can follow all news happen in the cryptocurrency ecosystem.

With CoinCodex, you can access a wide range of important metrics such as price movements, charts and 24-hour trading volume.

Another notable feature is the calendar of active ICOs and upcoming tokens sales where you can research and study the details of the latest crypto projects.

Conclusion

Each platform has its own unique features and strength that we can leverage on. By giving you these CoinMarketCap alternatives, it doesn’t mean that one website is superior to the other.

And you shouldn’t count on one single centralized system while comparing and tracking cryptocurrency prices.

Always check and do a cross check with at least 2 crypto price sources in the market.
